Are you using the computer thru your school network? Well obviously you can't check if there's a firewall blocking if LW is freezing. Another possibility is that your computer is coming under there schools's protection scheme which prevents certain apps running if they're not authorised to. However, it could be something more fundamental within OSX itself.
