There is no need that java is able to connect to the internet, all java apllications, icluding Limewire, will run without it.

Again false. You can give permissions without starting the program. Zonealarm is a very user friendly firewall, in other firewalls you have to open the ports.
As I said there is no need that Java is running and Java needs no permission to connect.
I guess you installed SP2 and had a poor or no connection, you changed a few settings and now it works - it was luck.
