Hope I'm not out of bounds commenting here!
The international version of LW uses a different type of installer (InstallAnywhere) to the english version (InstallShield) & is recommended to people having installation problems. Try uninstalling the earlier version of Java. If that means uninstalling both then do that & reinstall the latest version.
The international installer is a packaged version & java comes out with new updates fairly often. So I guess it's a question of whether the focus should be taken off the development of LW to update the international package with not totally tested versions of Java. It doesn't quite add up. Problems with new versions of java may not totally surface for some time after. And from what I've read, even now there's some issues with java; java's an imperfect softw that's trying to overcome probs it's long had.
