I'm from the middle of the ocean (sea monster 'Ness') lol As recommended by Ursula, a decent movie should be 500 MB minimum. The larger the better! Most have been downsized so they'll fit onto a CD to burn as a VCD/SVCD. But some are broken into parts so you'll have part 1, 2, etc. These would obviously offer the best quality & could each be added to Toast as tracks. With Toast 6 you can add chapter markers & even edit parts.

One problem with dwnlding movies using LW is that most have been reduced in size. The originals will range in size b/w 4-7 GB. So if it's been reduced to 1/8 or 1/10th of the size there's obviously going to be some noticeable loss of quality. Also some formats such as mpeg1 generally have a set dimension/resolution which is roughly half that of dvd. That's one reason the size you see appears to be relatively small. The other is the playback app & most video apps have an option to watch full screen. DVD for PAL is 720x576/486 (NTSC) for standard video (not incl. widescreen.) SVCD is 480x480 & VCD is 352x280. There's other sizes b/w those you can get particularly with mpeg4/divX, etc.

Oh & once you've dropped the video into Toast, press edit & press the Text tab. This should tell you the dimensions of the video. Yes you should be able to burn to DVD. Toast will do any necessary converting. If you have a dvd-rw burner, trial a rw disk out 1st!

Another point I should make is that just b/c the video's been reduced in size doesn't mean it's not reasonable quality. One of the factors is the quality of the utilty that reduced the size & also the skills of the user. Some vcd/svcds are very good. You said easy to understand explanation, sorry I forgot!

Both members & mods on the forum are from all over the world. I'm from the sthn hemisphere.
