LW doesn't use extensions. You could try setting the Extensions setting to minimum/Base set (I can't remember what it's called.) But that may also depend upon what type of connection you have. For example, make sure your internet ext's are loaded: AppleShare, File Sharing Extension, Foreign File Access, Internal V.90 Modem, Internet, MacIPX Ethernet, ShareWay IP Personal Bgnd, URL Access, Web Sharing Extension, XMODEM Tool (These might not all be necessary.) Disable any Fax extensions!!! Make sure you have the most up to date Java for your OS version.
