You can download the codec for avis but you might need other codecs in future. Here you will find all of them:

Perhaps you should download and install the ACE codec pack, it contains all common codecs. If you donīt want to install all codecs, download and install the DivX codec, if your .avi isnīt playing after this find out which codec you need:
