Kazaa's installer was a tiny stub that downloaded the rest from the network. We haven't built such an installer yet -- it is very high on our list of things to do, and likely the installer for the next release will be built like that.
I can't speak for BearShare, but I imagine they moved off download.com because they didn't want to show themselves as below other p2p programs in terms of downloading. Their main download is probably the Pro version, since that's a more prominent download on their main page.
We would get extra bandwidth, but a higher number on download.com isn't enough justification for the cost of the bandwidth. We asked download.com if they wanted to host the files and they declined.
Basically, because LimeWire is so popular, we had to delist ourselves from download.com for a short while. |
