I know nothing about AOL but have you read this: AOL upgrade causing connection problems Apparently AOL offers a firewall. You'd need to either configure this to allow both LW & Java access or to turn it off (not too many OSX users bother with firewalls.) Whilst LW is open, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is your result True/False?

Another test you can do is go here: http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php & IGNORE the warning in the red box, & various details. Just tells us whether it says you have a NAT device or not in the grey box & probably on the 3rd line. eg: it may say something like this: "It would appear that your machine does use NAT."

For now try installing Java via the Standalone installer: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html Installing online can cause some problems so try this installer instead.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS X version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

There were apparently 1 million copies of LW dwnlded last week. Considering the no. of users, only a small % have problems. And most of those are firewall & java related.
