I'm not sure which operating system your using, but in WindowsXP here goes.

Open windows explorer. Locate a *.wmv file. Highlight the file then single right click. Chose open with select the program you wish to open this type of file (ie. wmp). check the box towards the bottom- always use the selected program to open this type of file
