I toohave that problem, initially. I'm on a network behind a firewall and I have to get a WINDOWS machine running Bearshare running and connect to it to discover some hosts. Once there is a cached hosts list daved everything works fine. Would suggest that in the future a cached hosts list be distributed with the software, and also available for download from the web site. This would solve your problem in all likelihood.
