Thank you for the informative response. I figured the shift-JIS out a couple of weeks ago, and understand somewhat of what your talking about. I have already run into this problem.

But I have noticed if I switch everything over to Japanese/Nippon including the keyboard I don't have as many problems. I do this once or twice a week just to check out LW and Japanese websites.

BTW: Even though I'm not from Japan I have lived there. I have also taken the Japanese translation test: 2 in the USA and 1 in Japan - Yamasa Institute. Results. Both USA - 100% speaking, 100% reading, 100% writing. Yamasa Institute 98% speaking, 99% reading, 97% writing. The reading and writing portions encompassed all 4 written forms.

I may not know much in certain areas, but in others I'm quite able to hold my own.
