Personally I use Pioneer DVD-RW. I don't think I should be recommending but just stick to the better known brands. And get an RW so you can trial dvd's out before burning to dvd-r. Also speed is not important. Reliability of the burning & of the reading of the disk are most important. I use a mac personally! Good dvd media is also important. Google it. Research any brands & models that might take your interest. Look for both magazine reviews & customer reviews/feedback. Here's an example:

Don't get confused with disk sizes! Unlike CD's, 4.7 GB disk does not hold 4.7 GB of files but around 4.37 GB. That's b/c for dvd's they use the same tech as they use for measuring hard disk size. eg: a 120 GB HDD in practice only holds about 115 GB of files.
