I think I might have the answer to my problem.
In the preferences when burning a cd in itunes I think if I chose a data cd or dvd then I would get the song titles etc.
However it does say "These discs may not play in some players " So I have decided to be happy with what I have and instead print off the song titles, and make a cover for the cd .
Hope this will help someone else in the future.
