In the PC Exchange control panel window you'll find a list of formats in alphabetical order. Look for mp3 & then select iTunes as the program to open it. Note mp3 'might' be listed as mpeg audio or MPG3.

There was a utility called ? iTunes something lol but it's no longer made. All you needed to do was drag & drop an mp3 onto it & it would change the file's properties & icon to that of iTunes.

By the way, iTunes cannot import all mp3 audio formats. In such a case, you could convert such files as Ogg Vorbis, etc. to AIFF & import them to iTunes just before burning.
