Hmmmm I'm thinking you need one with both, but if your cd burning application will convert the mp3 to cd audio I would think it should play.

I use Nero ultra and it will convert mp3 to cd audio, which will play on most players that will play cds. I have burned several disks in mp3 format that would not play on other players, but when burning the mp3 in cd audio format they worked in the other players.

I would also suggest you read your user manual and see what type of formats your sony diskman will play.
