Buying Goods via the Internet Ravingprincess01
Just a little bit of extra advice when buying goods and/or services via the internet.
1) Only purchase from reputable companies, i.e. a lot of high street stores now have websites.
2) Non-high street companies like Amazon.com, Play.com, etc. have a good reputation and in 99% of the time will deliver what you pay for.
3) When trying a new (unknown/untrusted) company only make a purchase of no more than $10.00 (US) or £5.00 (UK). If the company delivers as promised then you know the company is worthwhile. However, if you have problems with the company then you haven't lost much.
Over here in the UK some internet companies have a "Which" (a very reputable consumer magazine) seal of approval. If you have a US equivalent then watch out for that.
I also find that work colleagues are a good source of information when it comes to buying goods over the internet.
Finally, whenever you do purchase goods always use a credit card rather than your bank card/account details, most credit card companies guarantee your purchases and will speedily get your money back when there is a dispute. Plus, if an unscrupulous company tries to milk your credit card then the card can be easily changed.
