(1) in LW, Preferences/Itunes/Import: is the the "Enable Itunes Support" (or something like) is checked ?
(2) Which macine / OS do you run ?

On my G5 Tiger, downloaded songs go directly into Itunes Library and I can manage them as songs I import from CDs
