many schools have IDS (intrusion detection services), which alert the system administrators if certain activity goes on the network. Snort, one of the most popular open source IDS programs, has rules which stop/detect p2p traffic, which can trigger the firewall to cut you off or just e-mail to the sys admins about what happened.
downloading is serious in college. if you downloaded something they didn't like or you violate some rule, you potentially risk losing a scholarship. |
