Deleting safari is NOT a wise idea. Firstly because Firefox and other browsers are not at all good at downloading certain things including .dmg files.

and also because the default browser, which can be any browser you like, needs to be selected from within Safari preferences.

I suggest you reinstall Safari, or get a new copy which I imagine you can do from Apple.
