Agreed, this is a great idea. For example, you might want to search for comic books in the Comic Book Reader format. You could search for files ending in extension .CBR and come up with just those types of files.
Wildcards would be a great addition, too. Like you want to search for Batman comic books, you search for "Batman*.cbr
