red_eyes university res might be the reason. If you can connect at all you're lucky since most uni's are totally blocking p2p nowadays. Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some uni'ts & ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing. But ... if you were able to connect before then either they've changed their policy or it's a LW/Java/Firewall issue.
Both sakahowdah & red_eyes: Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Normally for norton firewall, disable XP firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box) & configure Norton FW * Configuring Norton Internet Security However, someone today found their solution was the other way around: !!Solution!! to LW Problems!!
Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire Make sure you 1st note any settings that you think are important to your set up. Once you reopen LW, you'll need to reset them all.
sakahowdah go to LW's menu, Tools>Options>Speed & tick Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities & press apply. UPnP which Linksys uses doesn't work well in ultrapeer mode.
