Hi Savvy ... I nearly forgot about you
I'm not familiar with 4.9.4 it only lasted 4 days back in July and quite a number of changes were made in 4.9.5 if you look at

I suppose it is possible that this has a little to do with your question . I'm curious as to why you stopped upgrading when you got pro.
1. If a file is labelled corrupt, it will remain in the incomplete folder until you clear it from the download window. Once it is cleared from both there is nothing to stop you re-downloading the file.
2. I imagine a file can become corrupted at any stage of it's life
3. quite possibly. There sounds like something peculiar about connections coming on and off like that.
4. re-search for the files. try to get ones with different bit rates and or possibly a second or two longer or shorter always assuming you know what the originals were!
5. I'm sure you saw this addressed in your searches, but basically some files have nothing wrong with them. and some contain viruses and others lie some way inbetween.
If I get a popular file that is corrupted I delete it immediately. If it is a rare one, I check it and if it is ok "I convert it to mp3" wih iTunes ... which is not as stupid as it sounds, and I have a perfectly good file.
My answers are based totally on what I can remember of what I have found, and personally I don't come across many "corrupt files". A lot of corrupt files come from T3 sources, but to day I have had an excellnt bunch of downloads from a T3 source so there is a good amount of chance involved along the line.
I hope my meanderings have been of some use
