Some people are either stupid, lazy or don't care but I suspect that, in addition, the RIAA, via it's cronies, are seeding the P2P network with these virus infected files in order to bring the network down.

No, because the network consists of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of individual PCs and servers. Just like LW cannot control what you or I put or our PCs, likewise LW cannot control what other P2P users put on their PCs either.
