I know nothing of Nicotine, but have been tempted to look at Poisoned when I get round to it. ( nice names eh!
) Nor do I quite know what X11 is all about.
I guess you know this site which supplies Poisoned also.

Reading a bit on Nicotine, it appears to be a dubious application for Panther, which rules me out. I also notice it works on Soul-Seek Network, which is an unknown quantity to me. Poisoned on the other hand will operate on different networks, and AFAIK if the only ... or certainly one of very few ... mac applications to do this.
Limewire is under a certain ammount of pressure to introduce a block on copyrighted files, and for this reason Frostwire has been introduced. It is currently identical to Limewire to all intents and purposes. It will remain free of restrictions however if and when Limewire introduces them.

Phex is a nice application, a bit more complicated to use, but like Limewire/Frostwire, a Java based Gnutella network client.

It seems to me to access areas of the network that Limewire does not and so using the two I get a pretty good search field for rarer files.
In conclusion, I think Poisoned must be worth a try.
