I also can't use BearShare for the same reason. I tried 3 versions with same result. Do you get the same error as shown below?
For downlding videos, here's some hints:

3. You can also preview the file as it's downlding but you can only preview as much as you've downlded already. I'd recommend
VLC - (click on link) for previewing. But also be aware that previewing creates a copy inside the incomplete folder called PREVIEW - filename After completed downld, go to incomplete & delete preview files.

5. Ignore files less than 1 MB (1,000 KB) in size. When you click search button in LW, double-click the top of the size column so it shows the largest at the top of the list. This reduces chances of getting confused by the sizes. See
