It appears I was right when I said I did not think it was a LimeWire problem. The problem turned out to be my Marvel Yukon Gigabit Ethernet Controller. I was using the latest driver from Windows updates version 8.41.1.3 Release date 9/19/2005.
I reinstalled the driver that came on the original CD but the problem was still there. I then went to the Marvell Yukon site and saw the had a new driver I installed the new driver version 8.49.2.3 release date 1/20/2006 It can be found here

After installing I ran LimeWire and started 7 popular files between 250MB and 650MB they all completed in about 1½ hrs. With no problems.
LimeWire stayed connected to between 10 and 14 host for each file through the entire test and maintained DL speed of 775KB/s to 850KB/s 99% of the time. The one thing I did notice is that when a file completes and it is being verified is that the DL speed will drop slightly until verification finishes then the DL speed will go up to speeds of 3000KB/s for a minute or two it is like it has stored a back log of packets.
Any way the problem has been fixed and it was not a LimeWire problem.
