Do NOT use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to attempt to uninstall LW. It won't work & you'll probably end up with a partially uninstalled program. This has been true since LW version 4.4

The normal way to uninstall is reinstallling (it uninstalls previous version at beginning of installation), or going to Start menu >Programs > LW > Uninstall, or going to LW's program folder, look for uninstaller program.

It sounds to me your initial problem was caused by a spyware program that doesn't work properly. Do you use PestPatrol or AOL security by any chance? If yes, then either uninstall it or put LW on the exceptions list. Otherwise PestPatrol or similar will remove parts of the program. Only use 1. ad-ware (FREE), & also Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) as these ones work properly. LW does not have spyware but some spyware programs don't work properly.

To solve your other problems, I'd suggest you delete your LW preferences folder; instructions Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.), & then reinstall LW. Get LW from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Run your system over with Crap Cleaner

BTW it might be worth checking this page WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link) & do an online virus check. Your problem sounds suspicious if a spyware program was not the cause. It might be worth getting Norbie to help you. His link is listed at that page.
