I downloaded the Java 1.4.2 Update and tried reinstalling it, but a message said, "You cannot install this software on this volumn. This volumn does not contain a version of java that needs updating." So, like you said, I went to OSX HDD > Library > Receipts folder, but the only Java receipts listed there were java.pkg and JavaSecurityUpdate4.pkg. The java.pkg had a modification date of April 17, 2004, and the JavaSecurityUpdate4.pkg had a March 7, 2006 date. I put the most recent one in the trash, and tried installing the Java 1.4.2 Update, but it still wouldn't let me install it. (I've since taken the .pkg file out of the trash and put it back in the receipts folder, just to be on the safe side.) Any other ideas? When I originally updated to Java 1.4.2, I used Software Update, so would the .pkg file be named something different? A picture of my receipts folder is
here.
