I've been trying to find a solution to this problem since LimeWire launched v.1.7, and I think I figured it out tonight.
There are two key components to this install (experienced users, look the other way): you need a current version of Java Runtime 2, and you must have all of the supporting system files to install Java RT2.
I kept getting an error when installing Java (j2se_1_4_0_Beta3 available at
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/jre/ ). The error said, "Error Loading Type Library/DLL", but I've heard of several other Java install errors as well. The most typical is due to a missing system file (Stdole32.tlb) available through a download of Dcom from Microsoft's site. (
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/dcom1_3.asp ) {Thanks to bradfje on the Java Forum}
If you get the Java error, download the Dcom file, reboot and then re-attmept the Java install.
After all of this, I was then able to install LimeWire 2.0.2 without any other problems.
I hope this helps some of you ...
