No, it doesn't have anything to do with shared files. It's better not to create shared files folders if you don't absolutely need them, btw.
Listen, you can make any new folder you want, and you can drag-and-drop your mp3 files in it.
For example, if your music player is Winamp (let's say), a good place to make one is to create a new folder in the Winamp folder. Call it MP3 (or better still, MP3a... an unusual name is more easily hidden from intruders). Then, just make a shortcut of that folder on your desktop (right-click on the folder you've made, then drag-and-drop it to your desktop and select "make shortcut here"). That way, you can get to your mp3s really easily by double-clicking on the desktop icon to open the folder that's in the Winamp folder.
