port mpping problem I read your article and decided to try
Sygate. Please
help me.* The
reason I am
buying an internet sharing* software is to
be able to
use the internet
in two
locations, myself who is the server and my
daughter
who
will be the client.* We never use the net
together
considering the bandwidth reduction with
simultaneous
usage.* My daughter and I have some p2p
file sharing
applications in our pc and we love sharing
music in
the net.
I was wondering if I still have to map the
tcp/ip port
for my
client pc even though the net is only used
by one pc
at a
time.
Does the sygate software have a firewall?
Please give
me
detailed instructions on how to map the
tcp/ip ports
say on
gnutella, napster or winmx.
Assuming that only one pc will be used at
any given
time,
how should I configure the 2 computers? As
per the
documentation in the sygate site, the
instructions are
to download the
access
rules.* It looks like the access rules for
say
gnutella is not
available. I downloaded the file
gnutella.cfg.* but I do not understand how
to set this
up.* Do
I have to set this up in the server pc or
client pc.
and how
do I do this? Please help me understand how
to add, or
import or export?* inorder that file
sharing will work
or so
that some ports could be opened.
Let me please site an example.* In the
Winmx
application,
there are questions I have answer.* This is
how the
set up
page looks like and I have to select one
with sygate
installed
on both computers.
Winmx is installed on both computers and
these
questions
have to be answered on both.* Could you
please advise
me
how to answer them on BOTH COMPUTERS
(server and
client) I have to tick the circle whichever
is the
correct
choice.
Question 1 Outgoing connection
O connect directly
O use socks 4 proxy (1080)
O use socks 5 proxy (1080)
Question 2* Incoming TCP Connection and UDP
Packets
O Listen on port 6699 for incoming TCP
connection
**** Listen on port 6257 for incoming USP
connection
**** (Important: If you are behind a
firewall or
access the
internet****** through a LAN, you must map
these
incoming
ports through your firewall or router
O* Unable to accept incoming connections
("PORT 0" in
other
file sharing applications) Choose this
option if you
are behind
a firewall, access the internet through a
LAN and are
unable
to map an incoming TCP/IP port.* Using this
option
will limit
the number of users you can download from
upload to
Question 3 Host name resolution
O Use Local OS to resolve names
O Use DNS server at _______ port 53
O Push host names through socks5 proxy
Please advise me how to answer these
questions from
BOTH
SERVER AND CLIENT PC
On some p2p applications, I get error
messages such as
"Could no bind UDP socket" or "Could not
open TCP/IP
port
for listening"* or "Winmx is now in
firewalled mode"
What I
do to avoid this is to reinstall the
software and its
fixed but I
am just wondering why I get these messages
sometimes.
The name i gave my server pc is "SERVER"
and name of
my client pc is "CLIENT"
I assigned internal IP 192.168.0.1 to
server and
192.168.0.2
to client.* DNS is disable in server and
enabled in
client.* The
IP address of my cable ISP provider is
203.194.162.120
I am attaching here the ip configuration of
both
machines, in
files called server.doc and client.doc. for
your
information.
This will supply all the ip addresses for
your
perusal.
Should I install the* free sygate
firewall?* Is this
necessary?* Please
advise me if I have to do this and if ever
I do, how
do I open ports to allow file sharing.* I
am so
confused on
where or what machine (server or client) to
do any
port
mapping. And if only one machine is used,
is there a
need for
it.
At the moment, I have difficulty getting a
connection
and
downloading from client pc and from the
server, very
slow.
The bandwidth on the client pc is 0.00
Mbps. If ever I
get a
connection and the file starts to download,
the
connection
drops out completely.
The cfg, file on apprules was opened with
notepad.
What do
I do with the information?* Also when I
installed
sygate, the
apprules were not installed in my sygate
directory.
The
apprules in your web site says that they
are only for
version
3.0 but the version I downloaded is version
4.0* What
do I
do on how to get these apprules.
The only applications I will be using are
the
following:
1)Gnutella, Bearshare, Grokster etc.
Listening port is
6669
2) Napster* - Listening port is 8888
3) ICQ2000 Listening port is 20000-20019
4) Winmx
5) FTP
6)* MIRC
7)* Limewire, Gnucleus - Listening port
6346
8) Aimstar - Listening port 7668
9) Bearshare - Listening port 6669
I would also want to share files in MIRC
and I was
told this could only
be done with DCC?* How do I initiate DCC in
MIRC from
both computers?
Should I use the socks4 or 5 with 1080 port
on both
computers?
