What brand of R & RW disks are you using? Are they dvd- or dvd+? Which version of Nero do you have? Open Nero & look at the startup screen & it should say which version it is. If you miss it, you can go to the menu bar & choose help ... about nero. As said, nero 5 can't burn dvd's & won't recognise the dvd device as a dvd burner.
