Safe? From viruses & spyware ... get a good AV program. Also get good utilities. Avoid downloading files less than 2,000 KB (2 MB). See what utilities we recommend here WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link). Spybot - Search & Destroy & also Adware are 2 good ones!!! There's also a link to some free AntiVirus programs. I use AVG.

Stay away from WMA, ASF, ASX, WMV files. See tips about videos here Movie download issues
