Before trying that, create a new user account & install LW into it. Try that & see how it works. If it does work, then there must be something corrupt in your main user account.

BTW when backing up OS, all you really need to backup are docs & preferences folders. AFAIK Most apps & OSX system need to be installed properly otherwise problems can arise. But then again, I'm not a knowledge on different backup techniques.
