Well yes that may make some difference. But I believe the underlying problem is your isp. They do shape bandwidth against p2p programs. eg: Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work against Gnutella:

See if you can find your wrt54g router under the UPnP section here
Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) & other tips suggested there. I must say, if you only just bought it, see if you can replace it for another Linksys not with the number 54 in it.
Connection problems are user specific. They might be due to software or hardware firewall settings or might be due to their ISP. The connection problems we get in the forums represent about 0.1% or much less of total LW users. I believe close to a mill' download LW everyday.
