I agree the average joe pc user should care about what is installed on his computer. But he doesnt....he just wants to get on the 'Internet' to check his email, chat, and play flash games. If they really cared, they would take the time and educate themselves about certain type of programs such as spyware. The 'home to computer' analogy you're talking about doesnt work. Your computer is in no way an idea, resemblance, or associated with symbolizing as a house. You cant say someone breaking into your computer is the same as breaking into your house. For one thing its not physical. Theres just no physical damage. You should always make backups of your stuff. Its the same idea of wearing a seat-belt while driving a car. You know you can drive well but you wear it to protect yourself in case if something goes wrong. Because you know anything can happen. Its not actually hurting anyone. If something does go wrong you can always restore with the backups you've made. Anyways the list goes on and on...
