Before midnight I can't download faster than 50KB/s or so; however, on the stroke of midnight LW is flying along at +/-230KB/s...

I don't know whether there is a blanket ceiling or a trigger point because it only became noticable after I had tuned-up LW (via this forum) and was getting some decent download speeds.
