The "rar" files might actually be something you tried to download and didn't know it was coming in that format. You can do something with this format to make it useful, but I haven't gotten to that stuff yet, so I avoid them!
As far as being unable to delete them, I found a GREAT solution for such things. Its a free, tiny, but incredibly useful program that pops up when you can't delete or move a file, especially if it says "this file is in use by another...", which happens a lot to me using LimeWire. (http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker). I don't think it comes up when I try to do something to the file IN LimeWire, but I open the Explorer window with the file/s and try delete/move and if it won't budge, in a few seconds the unlocker window comes up and you find the action you want to take and follow the rest. It's great!
The other suggestion I have found to be THE BEST for figuring out what I am downloading is looking it up in Bitzi first. (In Limewire - Right-click file, ADVANCED > Lookup file with Bitzi)
