LW is a disk intensive programme/application because, if you think about what is happening, LW is uploading requests to other P2P users while downloading your requests all at the same time. Plus, that does not include what LW does when it first starts up, which is to index and count up the number of files in your shared directory. Therefore, LW is constantly working the moment you run it.
So if you have an oldish PC (say over 5 years old) your machine may well seem to "thrash" as opposed to a more modern machine, which tend to have server-like facilities, that can handle the extra stress LW will put on it.
