The original movie file I attempted to download was .avi, 500-something mb. The file was corrupted, so I got a compressed .zip file instead, 212.6 kb. I wound up uninstalling LW and deleting my entire library before getting AVG, so I don't know if the songs go back to mp3s. But it's been a couple days since then and all my new downloads are working.
