The best ripping tool is Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and the Lame encoder for encoding mp3 (Get version 3.97 Final)
Use google to find guides on setting them up correctly, and don't forget the drive offset correction.
It takes a while to set up, but you only have to set it up once and then save the profile. If you have internet it connects to the FreeDB to get the (in most cases, like 99% of the time) correct tags for the mp3 files, saving you a lot of time.
