If your using Mcafee uninstall it because it's known to have problems with LimeWire. Replace it with
avast, it's a good(FREE) one.
Also uninstall java via the add/remove programs and download java 6(JRE) using the offline installer:

For the problem of no search results, try using
PeerGuardian 2. It works like a mini firewall while your using p2p apps. They maintain block lists that block unwanted ip's, the probable source of the zero search results and probably why I haven't had that problem. Worth a try anyways
