Preparing your PC before installing Limewire Seven_7
I, like you, use my PC for other more important things than just using LW so, before I first installed LW, I did the following things:
a) Make sure you have a good anti-virus app, the P2P network is awash with malware, i.e. viruses, Trojans, spyware, hi-jackings, etc.
b) Also a good firewall is essential, you will find from time to time scumbags will try to probe your PC.
c) Anti-spyware apps such as Spybot, Adaware and AVG Anti-Spyware will also be needed to keep your hard disk free of spyware and adware.
d) PeerGuardian 2, an IP blocker which sits behind your firewall and stops auto bots from accessing your PC when using LW.
OK, the next thing I did was buy an external HD, this was to keep my personal stuff, on my "C" drive separate from the files I was going to share and download.
Now, you don't have to buy an additional HD but I would suggest that you first create a new directory, possibly called LWFiles, with subdirectories called "Shared" and "Incomplete". So your "C" drive will have an additional directory structure like the following:
C:\lwfiles\shared
this is where your downloaded files will be saved
and
C:\lwfiles\incomplete
this is where your incomplete files will be saved
Now all you have to do, when you install LW, is tell it where you want it to save your files (also it would be a good idea to read the LW manual).
Finally, you don't have to share your files, there is a facility in LW where you can switch sharing off, but that would make you a freeloader which is a very bad thing in most LW/P2P user's eyes.
