well maybe its just a mpg file that is not supported on mac... or the file is simply corrupt.
I've had lot of movie files not working until i installed some codecs or used VCDgear on them...

does it have a quicktime symbol? try to download some codecs like mpg4 and newest indeo (maybe thats done automatically) or try the file on a Pc....
