hmmmm....if I remember correctly you need certain codec plugins for Nero6, but I know Nero7 works marvelously to transcode .avi files to DVD format (in fact I'm in the process of doing that right now!)...

.avi gives the best kwality for the size of the file, and that is what I go for..

.mpg is more appropriate for burning files to CD to play in your DVD player (either in VCD or SVCD format)...
