Might I suggest a solution to your problem? Loose WMP. There are some great media players out there that you can use without having to go through all the MS Bulls*** to enjoy your media files. This is one that is highly recommended here on the forums. Has codec built in and will play most everything. VLC media player - Overview. Hope this helps. Just a suggestion!!
