Starhawk is flying high
Default Sorry, just a "me too!"

Hey, so I don't have any answers, but I thought I'd chime in with some support so's ya don't feel lonely. I had had a fresh installation of Windows Vista Ultimate, had just added Firefox, MS Office 2007 Enterprise Edition, and had just installed a Linksys Wireless-N wireless network card.

Then I installed Limewire and had been downloading for not quite a week (maybe 5 days), keeping the program and the computer running straight through.

Today, I exited Limewire and when I started it again, Windows Vista reports that "Limewire has stopped working." and that's all that Vista could tell me. Then there was some request to update the Java engine, so I let that go...and it still doesn't work.

I've even tried to start over from the disk image I had made just before installing Limewire. After I did that and installed Limewire from the same downloaded file as before--same problem, which makes almost no sense, since the state of the computer should almost be exactly the same. (I made some minor changes to some windows settings (changed a hard drive name--the system/boot drive, from which, of course, Limewire is running), I set the system drive up so that system restore points would be made...e.g., stuff that I don't think should affect Limewire much.)

So...I dunno, what could it be?

1. OS version? Vista Ultimate
2. What firewalls you have? Just what came with Windows
3. How much ram? 2 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? system drive 109GB, drive where Limewire is set to save stuff 102GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL (slow DSL)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Westell Wirespeed DSL modem model B90-36R516-01, router: LinkSys Wireless-(draft)N
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire v4.14.10, Java...I don't know what version I had before, but it just updated itself today--the Java Platform SE Binary is v6.0.30.5
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? AT&T and Yahoo
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes, 2 other desktops and sometimes 2 laptops. The main bandwidth sharers are World of Warcraft playing on the other desktop (it wasn't playing when the crashing has been happening today), and no big bandwidth usage from the other computers
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Its a new problem on this new computer/OS. I have used Limewire for a long time in the same home network on an older Windows 2000 computer.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? The "Limewire has stopped working" error message comes up very soon after starting the program. I can only see it through the "grayed out" state that comes with the dialog box. There is a brick wall there. I checked Windows Firewall's settings, though, and Limewire is set to be an exception, accessible from all over.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I think it's UPnP enabled, as Limewire *was* working, and I didn't have to do any setup for it to work at the time.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? When the problem first showed up, I had *just* installed the AVG free edition. Since then, however, I've restored a disk image prior to either Limewire or AVG installation, and installed just Limewire, and the problem still appears.
16. What country are you living in? United States
