Limewire/Firewall and AVG Hello: This is my first time here and I'm hoping someone can help me. I emailed limewire tech support. They responded once but when what they told me didnt work, I havent heard anything else from them. Thats pretty tacky but I have to move on. Below is whats going on with limewire. Can someone help me? Could it be my AVG virus protector because I've never had problems with Limewire before. Help please. Thank you beccah
Hello:
Below is a conversation we had about a week ago, I did all the things you asked me to do but limewire is still not working.
Is there something more I can do.
If you dont know what else to do, please respond anyway. Then I can look somewhere else OR you can refer me to someone who can help me resolve this issue.
Thank you
Rebecca MsBekkah Edit wrote: Hello Zenzele: Thank you for writing me back. I want you to know that I've done everything you said. I found copies of old limewire versions that I didnt know were still there, so I deleted everything Limewire, per your instructions. I went into the java website and downloaded the JRE file and then went into Limewire and downloaded it again. Much to my dismay, it still says: "LIMEWIRE HAS DETECTED A FIREWALL" Since I've never had this experience before, I'm thinking if I re download the version that precedes this one, perhaps that might help. What do you think? Looking forward to hearing your response. 2 - Uninstall all previous installations of LimeWire and Java Runtime Environment from Add/Remove programs (go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs).
3 - Delete all LimeWire icons and installers from your computer (you may find some on your desktop).
4 - Right-click the Start menu, then select Explore. Using the folder tree on the left side, navigate to the following directories, and delete them where found (you can right-click the folder and select Delete): C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\LimeWire (where username is the name you use to log on to Windows) C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Incomplete (this will delete any partial downloads that were in progress) C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\.limewire C:\Program Files\LimeWire NOTE: If you can't find these folders, go to Tools > Folder Options > View, then select Show Hidden Files.
5 - Restart your computer.
6 - Visit: http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/5.0_10/index.html and download the JRE (not the JDK), Windows Offline Installation
7 - Go back to the PRO download page, using the download link that was emailed to you on the date of your purchase, and download the Windows installer. Save the LimeWire PRO installer to your desktop, and then double-click on the file, to install the program onto your computer.
