Can anyone offer any help?

I did not try installing the Java updates as im royally confused as to which one to install.

Also I could not find the .limewire file so therefore I couldnt delete it.

Why must users go through hell to have this thing work??

This is a disgrace frankly.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys are able to provide.

Install the latest Java from the link below. Use the JRE offline installer. Remove any older Java versions installed via control panel > add/remove programs (or the Vista equivalent) before installing the latest update.
Java SE Downloads

The older Java version mentioned in other threads is one to install if you still have problems after installing the latest update. Even though it's an old version, it seems to have done the trick for people who have had trouble with the latest Java update. It's posted as an alternative to the latest update.

You won't have a folder named .limewire unless you've used much older versions of LW in the past. The preferences folder used to be named .limewire in versions older than 4.9.34. Now the preferences folder is named LimeWire.

If you don't want to use LW & would rather use Ares then that's up to you.
You don't have to "go through hell to have this thing work"
We aren't developers here. Just volunteers who use LW.
If you want to vent about LW I suggest you go to this other forum...some developers might read your post there.
