using an external drive - main drive continues to be used Hi,
I went through the LW manual, FAQs, and searched old posts but couldn't find anything specific to my problem.
I recenly started using a Lacie 500GB external drive with LW. I have been able to create a "incomplete" folder on my ext drive (with partially downloaded files), and a "shared" folder with files that have finished downloading. In Preferences>Saving>Save folder is set to /Volumes/LaCie A 3/Shared
My problems:
1. The empty space on my main internal boot drive is still decreasing when LW is downloading files. How is this happening if the "shared" and "imcomplete" folders are on the ext drive? Can I change any LW settings so that no more internal HD space is taken up? Is the space on my int HD being used as some sort of temporary storage for LW. When I quit LW and shutdown and restart my compputer some of the main drive space has returned but I'd like to make sure that LW doesn't have loads of my drive locked away. There are no longer "shared" and "incomplete" folders on my main drive.
2. The path of the save folder is strange as my ext drive is called "Lacie A" not "Lacie A 3". When I hit browse and bring up the "select folder" window, the drive is still called "Lacie A" and I select the "shared" folder and hit "ok" but I get "Lacie A 3" as a result. I also saw in Preferences>Sharing>Shared Folders has 2 entries:
/Volumes/LaCie A 3/Shared
/Volumes/LaCie A 1/incomplete
Could it be that maybe LW is increasing the name of my drive and it will soon be "Lacie A 4" and "Lacie A 5" etc...? Perhaps it increases the name after I shut down completely and then restart the ext drive? I'm not sure if my two problems are related at all. Could this issue with names somehow result in the main drive being used for downloading?
UPDATED INFO: I found that while downloading files on LW, I was using up more space on my main int drive while the amount of free space on my ext drive (with the "incomplete" and "shared" directories) didn't change. I wanted to see if, when a file was finished downloading, the amount of space that it took up on my main drive would shift to my external drive in the "shared" directory but I ran out of room on my int drive because I wasn't sitting infront of my computer while downloading. Any way to remove the partially downloaded files from my main drive would be appreciated as, even though I restarted the computer I only have a few hundred MB of space on my 100GB int drive.)
MORE UPDATED INFO: I started up LW and selected all the files in the window and paused everything so that nothing would start downloading. I opened the preferences and saw in the finder that space on my main int drive went from 100MB to 4.2GB!! I'm just happy that the memory is back as you can't do much with 100MB on a drive! Any help would be appreciated.
Any help would be much appreciated. I've copied all my system info from System Profiler. I did notice (at the VERY bottom of this info) that "Mount Point" mentions Lacie A 3
